CHARPENTIER HISTORIC DISTRICT
Lake Charles has a thirty block area of homes with Victorian to early nineteenth century architecture which has recently been named to the National Register of Historic Districts. This area showcases what is termed “the best and largest collection of Victorian architecture outside New Orleans.” The District’s name comes from the carpenter architects who designed and built the structures which at that time was because Lake Charles was too poor to support the services of a resident professional architect.
SOUTHWEST LAKE CHARLES
Southwest Lake Charles is generally considered to be South of I-210 and West of Common Street. McNeese State University, Lake Charles Municipal Airport, shops, and restaurants are but a few of the amenities of this area.
SOUTHEAST LAKE CHARLES
Southeast Lake Charles has much in common with Southwest Lake Charles, but its boundaries are east of Common Street and south of I-210. This is one of the fastest growing areas of Lake Charles. This area is home to the Super Wal-Mart, Home Depot, a new UA Theatre 10, and many new restaurants.
NORTHEAST LAKE CHARLES
Northeast Lake Charles encompasses the area North of I-210 and east of common street. This area includes the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital facility along with many other medical clinics, The area also includes the “Garden District” which is generally considered the homes from 12th Street north to Broad Street.
NORTHWEST LAKE CHARLES
Northwest Lake Charles includes the area surrounding the Lake and downtown Lake Charles. The area is home to most of our financial institutions, St. Patrick’s Hospital, and also Players Island Casino. The Lake Charles Civic Center, the Boardwalk, along with City Hall and the Parish Courthouse are also located in this area.
Sulphur offers several advantages, including easy access to local industries and interstate highway. Sulphur is West of Lake Charles and is a fast growing area. Several new hotels and restaurants have recently been built in the Sulphur area.
Westlake is also located close to many local industries. There is a variety of homes in this community along with some beautiful waterfront property. Much of this waterfront property is located on the Westfork of the Calcasieu River. Westlake is home to the Isle of Capri Casino and several new hotels.
Moss Bluff is North of Lake Charles with access from Hwy 171 or Hwy 378 from Westlake. A growing area, it includes the Sam Houston Jones State Park. The area contains a lot of new construction and offers homes with larger lots and even acreage.
Iowa is located about 15 miles east of Lake Charles on I-10. Iowa is home to the Vanity Fair Outlet Mall. Only 10 minutes from downtown Lake Charles, Iowa is a rural community with acreage and farm land.
Vinton is located West of Lake Charles, only 15 minutes from the Texas border on I-10. Delta Downs Racetrack is located north of Vinton. This area is also closely located to local industries.
